Plot Overview
Set seven years after the events of the first film, Chhorii 2 follows Sakshi, who now lives in a secluded area with her young daughter Ishani. Ishani suffers from a rare medical condition where exposure to sunlight can be deadly. Their peaceful life takes a terrifying turn when a ghostly presence lures Ishani away. With no one else to turn to, Sakshi seeks help from Inspector Samar.
Their investigation takes them back to the village Sakshi once escaped, a place still ruled by ancient rituals and dark secrets. A demonic deity, still worshipped by the villagers, demands blood — and Sakshi’s daughter is the chosen one. To save her child, Sakshi must face her fears, her past, and the horrors that lie hidden in the shadows.
Cast Performances
Nushrratt Bharuccha delivers a strong, emotional performance, portraying Sakshi with conviction and depth. She captures both the vulnerability of a mother and the strength of a survivor. Soha Ali Khan, making a comeback in a bold new avatar, plays the eerie and powerful Daasi Maa. Her character is creepy, intense, and adds real menace to the story.
Gashmeer Mahajani, as the logical and brave Inspector Samar, balances the supernatural with realism. The supporting cast, including Saurabh Goyal, gives decent performances that help move the story forward effectively.
Director Vishal Furia does a great job continuing the eerie tone of the first film. He deepens the mythology and adds layers of folk horror with social themes like female oppression and sacrifice rituals. His storytelling builds tension slowly but effectively.
Critical Reception
The film has received mixed reviews from critics. Some praised it for its social message and strong performances, especially by Nushrratt and Soha, while others felt the scares were not strong enough for a horror sequel.
- The Times of India gave it 3.5 out of 5, appreciating the blend of horror and emotional storytelling.
- Rediff rated it 1.5 out of 5, criticizing the lack of genuine fear.
- India Today and Firstpost offered middle-ground opinions, acknowledging its good intentions but pointing out weak horror elements.
Audience response has been divided. While some fans enjoyed the emotional depth and mystical backstory, others expected more traditional jump scares and thrills. Many appreciated the bold direction the film takes and praised Soha Ali Khan for her impactful performance.
Social media reactions show that viewers who loved the first Chhorii found this sequel more layered and emotionally gripping, while others felt the slow pace and symbolism-heavy story may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
Conclusion
Chhorii 2 is an ambitious and atmospheric sequel that expands on the story of the first film while diving deeper into social horror and psychological trauma. Although it may not deliver the typical thrills expected from a horror film, it stands out for its emotional storytelling, strong female leads, and thought-provoking themes.
If you’re a fan of Indian horror films that go beyond just scares, Chhorii 2 is worth watching. It’s now streaming on Amazon Prime Video — a must-watch for those who enjoy folk horror with heart.
